Cassie Naaktgeboren
RYT-200, certified kids and postpartum yoga teacher, MM, BM
Originally from Iowa, I made the big move to Brooklyn with my husband and cat in tow in August of 2012 to share my love of yoga and music with students of all ages. I feel that my “mixed bag” of educational, work, and teaching experience in yoga, music, and theater allows me to foster a nurturing and joyful environment in which an individual of any age or experience level can be free to tap into that light that shines so brightly in us all; that light that is your true potential.
I received my Undergraduate and Masters degrees in Voice Performance in 2009 and 2012, respectively, from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa studying under Dr. Jean McDonald and Dr. Korey Barrett. While toiling away at my undergraduate degree, I discovered the transformative power of yoga in 2006. Not only did practicing yoga, pranayama, and meditation inform and impact my performing and voice teaching approaches, it also dramatically improved my physical and mental health.
I wasn't satisfied with keeping this practice to myself. I felt compelled to share this knowledge with anyone who was open to listening and learning by teaching! I had been teaching adult yoga since 2008 with only local certifications, but I knew I could offer my students so much more if I pursued a higher level of training. In April of 2012, after nine months of study and practice under the guidance of master teacher Tanya Boigenzahn-Sowards, I received my RYT 235-hour certification from Devanadi Yoga in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Not only do I love sharing the practice of yoga with adults, but I am also blessed to share it with the littlest of yogis! I got my first taste of teaching kids yoga at the studio in my hometown, Field of Yoga, with my mentor and constant cheerleader, Mary McKinnis Meyer. After teaching these kids yoga camps, I knew this was work that I had a deep desire to pursue. The drive to fulfill this desire was one of the reasons that brought me to the big city! I received my Kids Yoga Teacher Certification in September of 2012 from Karma Kids Yoga in New York City and was hired as a teacher at the studio in February of 2013. I dare you to find a more fun way to spend your day than teaching yoga to children! Sharing yoga with new mommies and babies has also found its way into my teaching life. I received my Post-Natal and Postpartum Yoga certification from Jyothi Larson, author of Yoga Mom, Buddha Baby, and look forward to bringing yoga to the hardest working people on the planet and their special Little Lights!
Thank you for stopping by, I truly look forward to sharing the love and light of yoga and music with you! Namaste!
