YOGA FOR THE STAGE WORKSHOPS
I have developed 3 workshops that utilize yogic practices to greatly enhance the mental presence, strength, stamina, and body awareness of the performer. These workshops can be offered individually or as a complete 4 hour workshop, which will be the most comprehensive and beneficial to the participants. Evening and weekend dates are available in the NYC and New Jersey area. Please contact me for rates and scheduling.
PRANAYAMA FOR THE STAGE
In this 60 minute workshop, we will focus on the practice of yogic breath exercises, or pranayama. The particular pranayama I incorporate will warm, stretch, and tone the muscles of respiration, oxygenate the blood for better brain and body function, bring awareness to posture, and calm the mind. We will also be systematically extending the exhalation, which facilitates longer and smoother phrases with less exertion. A list and short explanation of the pranayama used will be provided in the manual.
ASANA FOR THE STAGE
In this two hour workshop, we will address some basic alignment issues and then move through a 75 minute practice together. The sequence I have developed uses poses that strengthen the core, warm and open the hips and shoulders for easier movement on stage, focus on stretching and strengthening the intercostal muscles through incorporating specific breath practices during asana practice, reduce inflammation in the sinuses, and bring circulation to the muscles of phonation. My intention is that students will be able to use this practice, or an abridged 45 minute or 30 minute practice, as a physical preparation for rehearsal or audition. A manual with photos and names of all the poses used in the practice will be provided for students to reference and build a foundational practice that incorporates pranayama, asana, and mindfulness.
MINDFULNESS FOR THE STAGE
In this 60 minute workshop, we will focus on mindfulness and how these practices are of great benefit to the stage performer to calm nerves, focus the mind, and tap into your intuition. We will briefly discuss what mindfulness means and it's application to performance. I will lead a 30 minute guided mindfulness practice for all participants, followed by a short discussion and opportunity for any questions to be asked. I will also include a cd with recordings of 3 different guided relaxation practices for students to use as part of a foundational mindfulness practice.
